Car wash
We have installed a new car wash facility in Rådal.
Our new car wash facility, which will be roofed, opened in November 2024.
We have established a washing plant for contaminated materials, which washes out fine particles containing pollution from larger fractions so that the sorted and washed fractions can be reused for many useful purposes. By sorting out stone from contaminated materials and washing soil and rock materials, the volume of material that must be disposed of in the rock landfill can be significantly reduced while reusable resources can be utilised for other purposes.
Brief description of the washing process
In the washing plant, the materials are fed onto a conveyor belt where they are washed and sorted into different fractions. High-pressure water is sprayed onto the materials while they are tumbled against each other to remove any adhesion and floating waste (wood, plastic, etc.). The fractions that will be sold on the market are: 0-8 mm, 8-16 mm, 16-32 mm and 32-90 mm.
Water and fines from the washing process are piped to a separator (Aqua Cycle). In the separator, a flocculant is added to settle out as many particles as possible before the sludge is pumped to a sludge tank. The particulate phase from the separator is pumped to a sludge tank and onwards to a filter press. In the filter press, further water is removed so that the waste becomes a dry sludge (filter cake). Contaminated sludge (filter cake) is transported to our landfill site at Stendafjellet.
Water can be reused
The facility shall have a closed water system. That means circulating and reusing all water and being a zero-emission facility that has no discharges to water from normal operation.
Water in the washing plant for contaminated soil is reused, which contributes to reduced water consumption. In this connection, we have installed a water treatment plant. The water goes through the treatment plant before it is pumped back to the process water tank.
After the aggregates are washed, these aggregates will contain some water. This water will drain to pump sumps, where the water is pumped back to the washing plant for reuse.
The roof water from the building above the washing facility will be collected and used as needed, or discharged as clean water into the municipal surface water network.
