70 years old

Fana Stein og Gjenvinning is turning 70 this year. When the company was started in 1954, it was to quarry stone where Fana Stadion is located today. Today's athletes train in the Høie Hall, which is named after FSG's very first director. Eventually, FSG was given responsibility for depositing all the rubbish from the people of Bergen, which was stored in an open landfill in Rådalen, where Stavollen and the fields of Stend upper secondary school are located today.

Today, FSG extracts stone from Stendafjellet, and the caverns left behind from the stone extraction are used for the disposal of contaminated material that has not hitherto been possible to clean or wash.

Extraction and processing of stone remains the core business of Fana Stein og Gjenvinning, but according to General Manager Karsten M. Gundersen, the new washing plant will contribute to a renewal of the business operations.

– In the future, recycling is going to become a more important part of our business, says Gundersen.
